Markforged FX10 modular 3D printer

Introducing the Markforged FX10 modular 3D Printer, an advanced industrial 3D printer designed to increase manufacturing productivity by providing reliable and accurate tools and fixtures on demand.

The FX10 features a modular print system that allows users to quickly and efficiently switch between metal and composite print engines. All FX10s have composite capabilities as well as metal printing capability as an optional feature. Optical sensors mounted on the print head can verify part dimensional accuracy and evaluate the health and performance of the device. The FX10 utilizes automatic calibration and material changeover to provide a simple and easy user experience that reduces the need for dedicated operators.

Industrial metal and composite printer

The world's first industrial metal and composite modular 3D printer, the FX10 is the result of years of engineering innovation and technological advancement. Building on the success of the Markforged X7 and Metal X, the new FX10 quickly delivers durable, precise tools and fixtures to your production floor.

FX10 benefits

  • Reduced spare parts costs by up to 90% and lead times from months to days.
  • Increase productivity while reducing operating costs.
  • Keep your production lines running with on-demand spare parts.
  • Allows you to replace physical inventory with digital inventory.

Modular design of the FX10 printer

The FX10 has a modular system architecture that allows you to unlock metal printing mode by simply switching the print mechanism. The optional Metal Kit, which is commercially available, makes the FX10 the world's first industrial metal and composite printer. Reliably print composite and metal parts on the same 3D printer to boost production and productivity in your factory.

FX10 metal-enabled printers require Wash-1 and Sinter-1 or Sinter-2 to wash and sinter raw green parts into metal parts that are ready for use.

Markforged FX10 printing technologies

The FX10 produces durable parts with superior surface finishes with the reliability of Markforged industrial machines, thanks to its next-generation sensor package and flexible modular system design that allows users to upgrade to a metal print engine. A heated print chamber and automatic material spool changeover allow for large, high-quality parts to be printed. Optical sensors mounted on the print head can check the accuracy of part dimensions and evaluate the health and performance of the device, creating detailed images of printed parts for accurate calibration, inspection and verification.

FFF with fiber reinforcement

Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) printing technology combined with Continuous Fiber Reinforcement (CFR).

This is an advanced technology that allows you to create really strong and precise composite parts on a 3D printer, ready for use. The Markforged dual extrusion system has one print head with two nozzles. The composite part is created by FFF printing cells with a polymer (e.g. Onyx), followed by fusing continuous reinforcing fibers into specially left grooves. As the fiber filament is extruded, a nozzle heats and compresses the material, bonding it into a layer. This creates a strong bond between the base material of the part and the fibers, which can be up to 20 times stronger than the polymer.

The resulting structure combines the strength of continuous fibers with the strength of Onyx and is strong enough to replace aluminum.

  • Z layer resolution - from 125 microns to 250 microns.
  • Printing materials - polymer filaments, continuous fibers.
  • Internal parts geometry - closed-cell filling with continuous fiber reinforcement.
  • Printing platform - precision machined aluminum.

Metal Fused Filament Fabrication

The Metal Fused Filament Fabrication (MFFF) technology involves printing “green” parts with special filaments containing metal alloys. The next step is the process of washing and sintering the raw parts into ready-to-use metal products.

  • Z layer resolution - 127 microns after sintering.
  • Printing material - bonded powder filament
  • Internal parts geometry - closed cell or solid filling
  • Printing platform - heated, automatic alignment, replaceable print sheets.

Repeatable printing of precision parts

Markforged has designed every aspect of the FX10 - from the motion system to the software that powers it - to reliably deliver precise, durable parts. Thanks to its Simulation and Inspection software, the FX10 can produce verified parts that meet stringent plant requirements.

Increased ROI and scalability

The FX10 is powered by Digital Forge, Markforged's additive platform that includes intuitive device and desktop software, training, and built-in costing. You can start generating ROI on day one and easily scale to more teams, machines, and facilities.

Image processing module and laser micrometer*

The FX10 has two optical sensors mounted on the printhead. The Laser Micrometer Inspector, which checks layer dimensions for print verification and machine calibration, and the new Vision Module, which uses detailed images to scan parts and optimize printer performance.

*The Imaging Module will not ship with the first FX10 devices, but will be sent as a free upgrade package shortly after market launch.

Vacuum-sealed aluminum print platform

The Markforged FX10 has a large build chamber that can be heated to 60°C, which is ideal for printing high-quality parts at high speeds. The vacuum-formed aluminum print bed is also heated and has precision grooves that are laser scanned to micrometer accuracy for automatic calibration.

Metal

Markforged Metal Filaments combine the simplicity and safety of FFF printing with the superior properties of advanced metals, bringing metal 3D printing to your benchtop.

Plastics

Composite Base filaments are engineering-grade materials that print using a conventional FFF (FDM-style) process. Print with them alone or with Continuous Fibers to yield strong parts. The ULTEM™ and 9085 trademarks are used under license from SABIC, its affiliates or subsidiaries.

Continuous Fiber

Continuous Fibers enable Markforged composite printers to print metal-strength parts. They cannot be used alone — however, when printed with a Composite Base, they form the backbone of a strong printed part.
