GCP Plate for Coordinate Binding of 3D Scanner XGRIDS Lixel K2
GCP Target Plate for XGRIDS Lixel K2 — a special plate for working with ground control points during scanning with the XGRIDS Lixel K2. It allows you to correctly position the scanner in a given location and use the registered GCPs for further conversion of the obtained spatial data into an absolute coordinate system in the LixelStudio program.
Purpose of the GCP Plate
- used together with the handheld 3D scanner XGRIDS Lixel K2;
- used to position the scanner relative to a given ground control point;
- participates in the process of coordinate binding of scanning results;
- suitable for working with standard control markers and special targets;
- used in the workflow with LixelGO and LixelStudio.
How to Work with GCP
External GCPs are used to bind scanning results to known coordinates. During data collection, the XGRIDS Lixel K2 is installed together with the battery and the GCP base.
At a pre-determined position, the edges of the plate are aligned with the ground control point. Standard markers or special targets can be used for this. After proper installation, the corresponding GCP is registered through the control point mode in LixelGO.
The registered information is subsequently used during project processing. In LixelStudio, the coordinates of the external GCPs are matched with the data obtained during scanning, allowing the results to be converted into the required coordinate system.
Placement of Control Points
For one project, it is recommended to use at least 3 GCPs. They should be evenly distributed throughout the scanning area and avoid placing all points in a straight line.
For working with XGRIDS Lixel K2, it is also recommended to:
- keep the distance between neighboring GCPs less than 50 m;
- distribute the points evenly across the shooting area;
- move the scanner smoothly after registering a GCP;
- after fixing a point, walk around it 1–2 times or stay nearby briefly to collect more complete spatial data;
- after registering the last GCP before finishing recording, wait at least 15 seconds.
Where the GCP Plate is Used
The XGRIDS K2 GCP Collection Plate is needed in tasks where scanning results need to be linked to known coordinates and georeferenced spatial data is required.

- spatial measurements;
- engineering surveys;
- scanning of buildings and infrastructure objects;
- creating point clouds in an absolute coordinate system;
- projects where the use of RTK is limited or impractical.
The method with external GCPs can be used both indoors and in open areas. Unlike it, working with RTK depends on the availability of the appropriate signal and its reception conditions.
