FastForm AlSi10Mg Spherical metal powder for 3D printing 15-53 microns 5 kg

Aluminum-Based Metal Powder FastForm AlSi10Mg

FastForm AlSi10Mg aluminum alloy is one of the most in-demand materials in the field of industrial metal 3D printing. FastForm AlSi10Mg powder with a fraction of 15–53 μm is specifically designed for use in selective laser melting (SLM/LPBF) systems. This material combines the lightness of aluminum with excellent mechanical properties provided by the addition of silicon and magnesium.

Engineers choose this powder for its high processability: it demonstrates excellent flowability and high layer packing density, which is critical for obtaining pore-free parts. Unlike cast analogs, parts printed from FastForm AlSi10Mg often possess a finer-grained microstructure, which positively affects the ultimate tensile strength.

Technical Specifications and Chemical Composition

Printing quality directly depends on the purity and morphology of the particles. The spherical shape of FastForm powder minimizes friction between particles, ensuring uniform distribution by the recoater or roller in the build chamber.

Chemical composition (%):

  • Aluminum (Al): Base
  • Silicon (Si): 9.0 – 11.0
  • Magnesium (Mg): 0.20 – 0.45
  • Iron (Fe): ≤ 0.55
  • Nitrogen (N), Oxygen (O): Minimum content to prevent embrittlement.

Physical Properties of the Powder

  • Particle Size Distribution (PSD): 15 – 53 μm (optimal for standard laser settings).
  • Shape: Spherical (gas atomization).
  • Flowability (Hall Flowmeter): High, absence of agglomerates.
  • Packaging: Hermetic 5 kg packaging.

Advantages of Using FastForm AlSi10Mg

Working with this powder gives an engineer a number of advantages determined by both the physics of the material and the quality of raw material preparation by FastForm.

  • High thermal conductivity: AlSi10Mg conducts heat excellently, making it indispensable for the production of radiators, heat exchangers, and electronics housings with active cooling.
  • Corrosion resistance: the presence of silicon allows parts to maintain structural integrity in conditions of high humidity and aggressive environments.
  • Low shrinkage coefficient: during the material crystallization process, minimal internal stresses arise compared to other alloys, which reduces the risk of deformation ("warping") and support detachment.
  • Post-processing capability: parts are easily subjected to mechanical processing (milling, drilling), as well as anodizing and painting. If necessary, heat treatment (T6) can be performed to change the balance between hardness and ductility.

Material Application Fields

Given the balance of weight and strength, FastForm AlSi10Mg powder finds application in industries where every gram counts and the complexity of the geometry does not allow the use of traditional casting.

  • Aerospace industry: Brackets, fastening elements, internal components of cabins and engines.
  • Automotive industry: Gearbox housings, intake manifold parts, lightweight suspension elements.
  • Industrial equipment: Manufacturing of complex tools with internal cooling channels, grippers for robotics (including Unitree), where low inertia of moving parts is important.
  • Prototyping: Creation of fully functional models that are as close as possible to serial cast products in terms of properties.

Printing Features with FastForm AlSi10Mg Powder

When working with FastForm AlSi10Mg, it is important to consider the specifics of laser absorption by aluminum. Due to the high reflectivity and thermal conductivity of aluminum alloys, stable laser power parameters are required.

  • Protective atmosphere: Printing must be carried out strictly in an inert gas environment (argon or nitrogen) with an oxygen content of less than 0.1%. Aluminum oxidizes instantly, which can lead to fusion defects.
  • Working with supports: Although the material is stable, for massive parts it is recommended to use platform preheating up to 150–200°C to minimize temperature gradients.
  • Powder recycling: Thanks to high sphericity, FastForm powder sieves excellently and can be reused after adding a fresh fraction (recovery), which significantly reduces the cost of the part.

Why Choose Original FastForm 5 kg Powder

Purchasing powder in factory 5 kg packaging is convenient for small and medium production cycles. This guarantees the absence of moisture and contaminants often found when weighing out from large drums in improper conditions.

Using proven FastForm material reduces the risk of damage to expensive 3D printing systems and guarantees repeatability of results – you get the same mechanical properties on both the first and the hundredth part.
