Advantages of FastForm FF-M800 500W×8

  • Eight lasers for high-performance SLM printing. The system with eight laser sources, each with a power of 500 W, allows the distribution of the metal part formation process across multiple scanning zones, reducing production cycle times under appropriate conditions.
  • Large working area for large parts. The build space of 650 × 650 × 1100 mm allows for the production of tall metal structures, large industrial components, and batches of smaller products without the need to split the model into separate parts.
  • Precise formation of complex geometry. The adjustable laser spot diameter of 80–120 µm and layer thickness of 20–150 µm allow for the selection of melting parameters for parts with internal channels, thin walls, and complex structural elements.
  • Automated powder feed system. A 55-liter reservoir and two 350-liter powder collection tanks ensure work with large volumes of material. Automatic feeding reduces the number of manual operations during long production cycles.
  • Bidirectional powder application. A flexible scraper supports the application of metal powder in one or two directions, reducing the number of idle movements between layers.
  • Long-lasting filtration system. A permanent filter with a lifespan of at least 30,000 hours reduces the need for regular replacement of filter elements. The filtration efficiency is 99.9%.

Eight-Laser System for Large-Format 3D Metal Printing

FastForm FF-M800 500W×8 is equipped with eight lasers, each with a power of 500 W, which provide layer-by-layer melting of metal powder according to the digital model. The multi-laser configuration allows for the distribution of large part formation across multiple laser channels and simultaneous processing of different areas of the working area. The laser spot diameter is adjustable within 80–120 µm, and the maximum scanning speed reaches 10 m/s. The high-precision digital scanning system ensures repeatability of laser beam positioning at the level of ≤2 µrad.

The productivity of one laser is 10–25 cm³/h. The overall formation speed depends on the number of simultaneously engaged lasers, the geometry of the parts, the alloy used, and the technological process parameters.

Large Working Area and SLM Printing Precision

The working area of FastForm FF-M800 500W×8 measuring 650 × 650 × 1100 mm is designed for the production of large metal parts and tall structures. This format allows for the creation of integral components with complex geometry, reducing the need for subsequent welding or mechanical joining of separate parts. The powder layer thickness is adjustable within 20–150 µm. This allows for the selection of build parameters according to the properties of the metal powder, the complexity of the geometry, and the requirements for the finished product.

The accuracy of forming parts up to 100 mm in size is ±0.1 mm, and for larger products, the declared value is ±0.1% of the corresponding size. The actual accuracy depends on the material, geometry, model orientation, and printing parameters.

The Z-axis positioning system uses an optical ruler to control the vertical movement of the platform. The maximum heating temperature is 200 °C, allowing for the adjustment of thermal conditions according to the material used.

Automated Feeding and Collection of Metal Powder

FastForm FF-M800 500W×8 is equipped with an automated powder feed system for long-term large-format SLM printing. The reservoir capacity is 55 liters, and two 350-liter tanks are provided for collecting excess material. A flexible scraper ensures the distribution of metal powder on the working platform. The system supports one-sided and bidirectional application, allowing for process adjustment according to the production task.

Powder application control helps maintain the stability of layer-by-layer part formation. The system monitors the material distribution process, and the powder application synchronization function with laser operation optimizes the production cycle. The base plate is secured with a bolt connection, ensuring its fixation during the construction of large metal structures.

Protective Atmosphere and Continuous Filtration

FastForm FF-M800 supports the use of argon or nitrogen to create a protective environment during selective laser melting of metal powders. The controlled atmosphere limits the interaction of heated metal with oxygen, which is important for the stability of the technological process. The system maintains oxygen concentration at ≤100 ppm under appropriate working conditions. The protective gas consumption is no more than 8 l/min.

The continuous filtration system is designed for long-term equipment operation. The filter element's lifespan is at least 30,000 hours, and the filtration efficiency is 99.9%. The choice of protective gas depends on the metal powder used and the technological printing parameters. For reactive alloys, appropriate requirements for the protective atmosphere must be considered.

Software for SLM Printing Preparation

FastForm software provides digital model preparation, printing parameter settings, and management of the metal part manufacturing process.

FastLayer is used for preparing models for SLM printing, including their placement on the platform, support creation, layer slicing, and scanning trajectory settings.

On the current FF-M800 page, the manufacturer also mentions software solutions AM BUILD and AM MIND. Their specific functions and availability in the supply package need to be clarified for the chosen equipment configuration.
