Advantages of FreeScan Trak Nova+

  • Scanning without markers on the object. TE Nova+ tracks the position of the handheld scanner in real-time, so in dynamic tracking mode, there is no need to apply markers directly to the surface of the part. This reduces preparation time for measurement and simplifies working with large-sized objects.
  • Speed up to 7,600,000 points/s. In high-speed mode, 62 laser lines are used, ensuring productive digitization of large surfaces and parts with complex geometry.
  • Multiple scanning modes. TE Nova+ supports 62 laser lines for high-speed data collection, 25 parallel lines for detailed scanning, and one laser line for measuring recesses.
  • Detachable scanner UE Nova+. The scanner can be detached from the tracking system and used as a standalone handheld laser 3D scanner with a maximum field of view of 2600 × 2200 mm.
  • Wireless operation. Built-in wireless and computing modules ensure data transmission and processing without a signal cable between the operator and the stationary workstation. Fiber-optic connection is also supported.
  • Metrological accuracy control. The system is claimed to have an accuracy of 0.02 mm. Acceptance tests are conducted according to VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3 and ISO 10360 in the manufacturer's laboratory accredited to ISO/IEC 17025.

Dynamic Tracking Without Markers on the Object

TE Nova+ determines the position of UE Nova+ in real-time and tracks it as the operator moves. Thanks to this, in dynamic tracking mode, scanning is performed without applying markers directly to the measured object.

This principle simplifies the digitization of body elements, industrial equipment, structures, and other large-sized parts. The operator can move around the object and collect data from different directions while maintaining scanner position tracking. The absence of a signal cable provides greater freedom of movement, especially when working with complex geometry and in hard-to-reach areas.

Scanning Modes for Different Types of Geometry

FreeScan Trak Nova+ supports several laser line configurations, allowing the measurement process to be adapted to the size, shape, and surface features.

  • 62 laser lines are used for high-speed scanning and data collection from large surfaces.
  • 25 parallel laser lines are used for detailed scanning with TE Nova+.
  • 1 laser line is used for measuring recesses and local geometric elements.

The maximum data acquisition speed is 7,600,000 points/s. The detachable UE Nova+ also supports 62 laser lines in high-speed mode, and for detailed autonomous scanning, it uses 7 parallel laser lines.

Wide-Format Scanning with Detachable UE Nova+

UE Nova+ can be detached from the tracking system and used as a standalone handheld laser 3D scanner. The maximum field of view of 2600 × 2200 mm provides coverage of a significant surface area in one pass and simplifies the digitization of large-sized objects.

Results obtained in different scanning modes can be combined into a single data set. This allows combining the geometry of large surfaces with more detailed data of individual object elements.

Video Photogrammetry VPG for Large-Sized Objects

FreeScan Trak Nova Series supports video photogrammetry VPG technology to enhance measurement accuracy for large-sized objects. The system works with a calibration rod and uses video data to determine the spatial position of markers in real-time.

VPG does not require the use of coded markers and helps control error accumulation during the scanning of large structures. The volumetric accuracy with VPG is 0.046 + 0.012 mm/m.

Wireless Design and Autonomous Operation

TE Nova Series and UE Nova Series are equipped with built-in wireless and computing modules. Data transmission and processing can be performed without a signal cable between the operator and the stationary workstation, providing greater freedom of movement during the scanning of large objects.

Power is provided by removable batteries. During prolonged measurements, the battery can be replaced to continue working. The system also supports data transmission via fiber-optic connection.

Software Features for Processing Scanning Results

The FreeScan Trak software supports the merging of data obtained in different modes into a single set. This allows combining the results of wide-format and detailed scanning when working with a single object.

The intelligent resolution function adapts the mesh density according to the surface curvature. On areas with more complex geometry, higher detail is maintained without the need to uniformly increase the density of the entire model.

Recognition of geometric elements helps identify the boundaries of round and rectangular holes and slots. For further processing and data control, the manufacturer notes compatibility with SHINING3D Inspect, PolyWorks, Geomagic Control X, EXModel Pro, BlueStar Mapping, and Geomagic Design X.

Applications of Shining 3D FreeScan Trak Nova+

The combination of dynamic tracking, wireless design, wide field of view, and metrological accuracy allows the use of FreeScan Trak Nova+ for measuring parts of various scales and complexities.

  • Geometry control. Checking the shape, dimensions, and location of geometric elements of manufactured parts.
  • Reverse engineering. Obtaining digital geometric data for reproducing and further processing 3D models of existing products.
  • Digitization of large-sized parts. The field of view up to 2600 × 2200 mm and VPG technology expand the possibilities of working with large structures.
  • Mechanical engineering and transport. Scanning components of construction equipment, railway transport, car bodies, and other mechanical structures.
  • Aerospace and energy industries. Measuring large parts and structures without using a stationary coordinate measuring system.
  • Manufacturing control. The wireless design and removable batteries simplify moving the system between measurement zones without a constant cable connection to the scanner.
