Titanium TC4 powder for selective laser melting
Frontier TC4 15–53 µm is a spherical Ti6Al4V titanium alloy powder. The main alloying elements are aluminium and vanadium. The material is intended for metal 3D printing using SLM technology, in which a laser melts the powder layer by layer. The particle size fraction is 15–53 µm. The powder is used to make structural components, brackets, housings and parts with complex geometry.
Key advantages of Frontier TC4
- Spherical particles. The spherical shape makes it easier to spread the powder across the build platform. As a result, the recoated layer is more even, and the stability of melting depends on its uniformity.
- Controlled particle size distribution. The 15–53 µm range has been selected for additive manufacturing of metal parts. The fraction must match the machine's requirements, because it affects material feeding and layer formation.
- Ti-Al-V system alloy. The aluminium content is 5.5–6.5%, and the vanadium content is 3.5–4.5%. These elements determine the alloy's phase composition and its behaviour during heat treatment.
- Parts with complex geometry. SLM makes it possible to produce internal channels, cavities and structural elements that are difficult to achieve by machining. The limits are set by the machine, the orientation of the part and the printing parameters.
- Functional prototyping. The powder is well suited to producing research samples and structural components. Before series production, you can verify the geometry, assembly and manufacturability of the part.
Chemical composition and properties of the TC4 alloy
Frontier TC4 belongs to the titanium alloys of the Ti-Al-V system. The matrix is titanium, alloyed with aluminium and vanadium. The iron content is limited.
Alloy components:
- Titanium (Ti). The base component, forming the metallic matrix of the alloy.
- Aluminium (Al). An alpha-phase stabilising element. It affects the phase composition and strengthening of the alloy.
- Vanadium (V). A beta-phase stabilising element. It influences phase transformations and the structure of the material.
- Iron (Fe). A controlled impurity, the level of which is limited in order to maintain the required chemical composition.
The melting point is in the range of 1600–1660 °C, and the density of the material is approximately 4.5 g/cm³. These values describe the alloy itself. They do not translate directly into the bulk density of the powder or the mechanical properties of the printed parts.
Applications of titanium powder in 3D printing
Frontier TC4 titanium powder is used in the additive manufacturing of metal components, both in industry and in research work. Main areas of application:
- Aviation. Lightweight brackets, mounting elements, connecting parts and components of unmanned aerial vehicles.
- Automotive. Structural elements, holders and research parts for testing new solutions.
- Robotics. Housings, brackets, mechanism elements and parts of robotic systems.
- Mechanical engineering. Functional prototypes, complex connecting elements and components of mechanical assemblies.
- Dental manufacturing. Research structures, including bars for implant systems, abutments and denture frameworks. The use of finished products in clinical practice requires separate confirmation of compliance with applicable requirements.
Compatibility with SLM technology
TC4 powder is intended for selective laser melting of metals. The laser gradually melts selected areas of the powder layer in accordance with the digital model of the part. The size and shape of the particles determine how the powder spreads across the working surface. The spherical morphology reduces mechanical interlocking of particles, and the particle size distribution determines the conditions for layer formation. Before starting work, check the permissible particle size range, the requirements of the powder system and the recommended parameters for your specific 3D printer. The quality of the finished parts depends on the melting parameters, the protective atmosphere, the orientation of the parts, heat treatment and control of the production process.

Packaging and storage conditions
The weight of Frontier TC4 powder is 10 kg. Store it in a dry, cool and well-ventilated room, in a tightly closed container. Close an opened package carefully and keep it upright so that the powder does not spill. Rules for working with the material:
- Avoid contact with moisture, strong acids, oxidisers and halogens.
- Do not expose it to heating, open flames or electrostatic discharge.
- Provide local exhaust ventilation where metal dust is generated.
- Use protective goggles, gloves, work clothing and personal protective equipment.
- Collect spilled material into a dry, clean, closable container without raising dust.
Observe safety regulations when working.
