Key Advantages of Unitree As2-W Edu Ultimate

  • Wheeled design. The robot combines the speed of wheeled movement with the high passability of a quadruped platform. The device reaches a working speed of up to 3.7 m/s and can overcome rough terrain and steps.
  • Joint drives 95 Nm. Low-inertia electric motors provide precise and smooth control of limb movements. The drives are equipped with industrial cross-roller bearings, dual position sensors, and a local air cooling system.
  • 16 degrees of freedom. The design allows dynamic changes in body position, adaptation of the robot's height, and movement on inclined surfaces.
  • 100 TOPS computational module. The additional module ensures fast data processing from sensors, the operation of AI algorithms, and computer vision directly on the robot without connecting to an external computer.
  • Extended sensor suite. The system is equipped with an industrial LiDAR, an HD camera, an additional LiDAR Livox Mid-360, and three depth cameras that help the robot determine the shape, distance, and location of surrounding objects.
  • Long autonomous operation. A lithium battery with a capacity of 15,000 mAh provides over 3 hours of operation or a range of about 30 km without additional load.
  • High payload capacity. The mechanical platform can withstand a static load of about 150 kg and carry up to 16 kg of useful equipment during movement.
  • Support for Isaac Sim and SDK. Developers gain access to digital models of the robot, simulation tools, and software for creating and testing their algorithms.
  • IP54 protection. The aluminum alloy and high-strength engineering plastic body is designed for operation in temperatures from −20 °C to +50 °C.

Wheeled Design of Unitree As2-W and 16 Degrees of Freedom

The Unitree As2-W robot-dog is equipped with four jointed limbs with 7-inch wheels (178 mm in diameter), allowing for fast and energy-efficient movement on flat surfaces. The design has 16 degrees of freedom and 16 drive motors in the joints. Each joint is driven by a high-speed synchronous electric motor with permanent magnets and a low-inertia internal rotor. The moving nodes use industrial cross-roller bearings designed for significant radial and axial loads. The precision of movements is ensured by dual position sensors, while a local air cooling system maintains a stable working temperature of the drives.

Movement Speed and Obstacle Overcoming of Unitree As2-W

The robot-dog is designed for movement on various types of surfaces and operation in challenging conditions:

  • Working speed: from 0 to 3.7 m/s.
  • Peak speed: about 6 m/s.
  • Slope angle: the robot can ascend surfaces with an inclination angle of up to 45°.
  • Steps: the maximum height of a single step is up to 30 cm.
  • Maximum obstacle height: about 0.4–0.8 m depending on the type of obstacle and movement trajectory.

Thanks to the combination of wheels and moving joints, the Unitree As2-W can quickly move on flat surfaces and change body position to overcome thresholds, inclines, and uneven terrain.

Payload Capacity of the Unitree As2-W Robot-Dog

When selecting additional equipment for the Unitree As2-W, two types of loads should be considered:

  • Static load: in a stationary position, the robot can hold a mass of about 150 kg.
  • Working load: the recommended mass of useful equipment during continuous movement is about 16 kg.

Maintaining a working load of up to 16 kg helps preserve the robot's stability, controllability, and declared dynamic characteristics.

Battery of Unitree As2-W and Autonomous Operation Time

The robot-dog is equipped with a removable Long-Endurance lithium battery with a capacity of 15,000 mAh and a working voltage of 36–50.4 V. Without additional load, the Unitree As2-W can move continuously for over 3 hours or cover about 30 km. With a useful load of 16 kg, the operating time is over 2 hours, and the range is about 25 km.

A fast charging device with an output of 50.4 V / 7.4 A is used for charging. The charging station is not included in the basic Edu Ultimate package and is available separately as additional equipment.

Sensor System of Unitree As2-W Edu Ultimate

The Ultimate configuration combines the standard sensors of the Unitree As2-W EDU with an extended suite for navigation and spatial perception. The system is based on an HD camera for visual control and an industrial multi-beam LiDAR with 64–128 lines. A microphone array and front lighting for operation in low-light conditions are also integrated into the body.

The Edu Ultimate package includes three depth cameras. They determine the distance to surrounding objects, help detect obstacles, and more accurately assess the shape and unevenness of the surface in front of the robot's wheels.

The Unitree As2-W Edu Ultimate is also equipped with a LiDAR Livox Mid-360. With a wide field of view, the sensor helps create a 3D map of the environment, determine the robot's position in space, and ensure autonomous navigation in complex terrain.

100 TOPS Computational Power for AI and Navigation

The main functions of the robot-dog are controlled by a high-performance 8-core central processor. In the Edu Ultimate version, the platform is additionally equipped with a separate computational module with a performance of 100 TOPS. It processes data from three depth cameras, Livox Mid-360, and the standard LiDAR, ensures the operation of computer vision systems, analyzes sensor information in real-time, and allows AI models to run directly on the robot.
