Service Robot PUDU for Meal Delivery and Guest Interaction

BellaBot PUDU is a delivery robot for restaurants, cafes, hotels, and food courts, capable of carrying up to 40 kg of cargo on four shelves and operating for up to 13 hours without load. Thanks to visual SLAM and LiDAR navigation, three RGBD cameras, and a three-dimensional obstacle detection system, it independently builds a route, delivers orders from the kitchen to tables, accompanies visitors, and returns to a designated position. The movement speed is adjustable within 0.5–1.2 m/s, and the 10.1-inch screen, voice messages, light strips, and animations inform staff and guests about the robot's current status.

Main Advantages of BellaBot PUDU

  • One route covers multiple tables. The robot accepts multiple table numbers, calculates the sequence of movements, and returns to the loading point after completing tasks.
  • Four shelves reduce the number of separate trips. The total load capacity is up to 40 kg, with a permissible load of 10 kg per shelf.
  • The robot recognizes obstacles at different heights. Three RGBD cameras and LiDAR monitor the space near the floor and at body level, with the shortest specified reaction time being 0.5 s.
  • Dish delivery is easy to control. Upon arrival, a voice message and light strip indicate the required shelf, and an infrared sensor can detect dish removal.
  • Movement can be customized according to the hall plan. Speed is adjustable within 0.5–1.2 m/s, and the permissible incline angle does not exceed 5°.
  • Tasks can be transmitted remotely. PUDU Link allows you to send commands to the robot, view its status, adjust parameters, and analyze work data.
Overview of PUDU BellaBot Features for Restaurant Service
PUDU BellaBot combines multi-level shelves, an interactive display, lighting, safety sensors, and convenient control for daily staff operations.

Navigation and Obstacle Detection

BellaBot supports visual SLAM and LiDAR navigation. Visual positioning requires markers, which can be installed at heights up to 8 m with an additional height code. Laser navigation does not require markers, and the open specification does not indicate height restrictions for the premises.

Three RGBD cameras and LiDAR recognize low and overhanging obstacles. If an object appears on the route, the robot stops and adjusts its trajectory. Automotive-grade adaptive independent suspension adjusts damping depending on the surface and movement mode. It reduces body oscillations while transporting dishes on a flat floor and passing small irregularities within technical parameters. BellaBot operates up to 13 hours without load. Full charging takes 4.5 hours, and the battery capacity is 25.6 Ah.

PUDU BellaBot with Navigation and Obstacle Avoidance System in a Restaurant
PUDU BellaBot uses navigation sensors for orientation in the hall, route building, and safe movement between tables and obstacles.

Shelves and Delivery Control

The robot has four shelves measuring 41.00 × 50.01 cm. The distances between levels from top to bottom are 23.01 cm, 19.99 cm, 19.99 cm, and 18.01 cm. Each level can hold a load weighing up to 10 kg, not exceeding the total limit of 40 kg.

Infrared shelf sensors can detect dish removal. When one dish is assigned to one shelf, the system turns off the corresponding light strip after the load is removed, completes the current operation in 5 seconds, and moves to the next one. The shelf sensor function has certain limitations. It is not recommended to rely on it when placing stemware, fully glass items, and objects less than 5 cm high.

PUDU BellaBot with SLAM Navigation System for Autonomous Movement
PUDU BellaBot supports autonomous indoor navigation, helping the robot move accurately along specified routes and operate in the complex environment of a restaurant.

Delivery Modes and Guest Interaction

  • Delivery to multiple tables. The employee places orders on the shelves, assigns table numbers, after which the robot plans the sequence of points and returns to the loading place.
  • Route-based movement mode. BellaBot transports drinks, desserts, or napkins, stops at designated places, and plays voice messages.
  • Direct delivery. The robot performs one transport to a selected point, such as a table or washing area, and completes the operation without automatic return.
  • Guest escort. The model meets visitors at the entrance, leads them to the selected table, and then returns to the meeting place.
  • Birthday. The robot delivers a cake or gift and plays selected music.
  • Special mode. BellaBot transports dishes or gifts with selected musical accompaniment and voice message upon arrival.

Display and Notifications

The body is equipped with a 10.1-inch LCD screen with Android. Through it, the employee selects the mode, destination points, map, speed, volume, animations, and shelf parameters.

The robot has a circular array of six microphones and two 10 W stereo speakers. Voice packages and individual messages can be customized for different modes. Network connectivity is required for software updates and voice interaction. Light strips indicate the robot's status and the required level during delivery. Touch zones on the head and ears trigger animations and voice responses, and the screen displays a set of facial expressions in the image of a cat.

Control via PUDU Link

PUDU Link allows you to send commands to the BellaBot robot, monitor its status, set parameters, and view work indicators from a mobile application. Control is also available through button devices and a 4G watch.

Where BellaBot PUDU is Used

  • Restaurant or cafe. The dish delivery robot transports orders from the kitchen or delivery area to tables, where they are received by a waiter or guest, reducing the time staff spends on unnecessary transitions.
  • Food court. BellaBot delivers trays from the point of sale to designated tables or pickup locations, transfers the load to visitors or hall staff, and takes on part of the transportation between zones.
  • Hotel restaurant or breakfast area. The model transports dishes, drinks, and ready meals between the utility area, delivery line, and tables. Employees focus on taking orders and interacting with guests.
  • Dish collection. In direct delivery mode, the robot moves from the hall to the washing area, where the load is received by kitchen staff, reducing manual trips with dirty dishes.
  • Shop or exhibition area. In route-based movement mode, the robot moves samples, small goods, or informational materials and transfers them to visitors or a consultant.

Usage Tips

  • Measure routes. Check the distances between the kitchen, loading area, tables, and washing area. Add a margin to the minimum passage width of 70 cm for people, chairs, carts, and turns.
  • Check floor condition. The surface along the entire route should be flat, smooth, and dry, without sticky contaminants, thresholds over 10 mm high, and slopes greater than 5°.
  • Calculate load. Determine the number of delivery points and the volume of typical orders. Each of the four shelves can hold up to 10 kg, and the total load weight should not exceed 40 kg.
  • Consider dish height. Match item sizes with the gaps between shelves. For tall dishes, it may be necessary to remove one level and adjust its number in the menu.
  • Prepare a charging area. Place the charging zone near a suitable power network so that the robot does not block work passages, doors, and evacuation routes.
  • Evaluate human movement. During peak load hours, routes should avoid queues, doors with heavy traffic, and places where people may suddenly step onto the robot's path.
  • Check Wi-Fi coverage. A stable connection should be available along the entire route, especially for voice functions, remote control, updates, and working with the PUDU Link system.
  • Distribute tasks between the robot and staff. Assign the robot to transport dishes and tableware, and staff to control delivery, communicate with guests, and respond to non-standard situations.
  • Conduct a test run. Before launch, check positioning, turns, stopping points, marker placement, and actual working time on the selected route.
