Unitree As2-W Edu Plus for Autonomous Navigation and Development
Unitree As2-W Edu Plus is a wheeled robot dog designed for research projects, educational laboratories, autonomous navigation, and the development of robotic systems. This version includes a 100 TOPS computational docking station, a depth camera, and a Livox Mid-360 LiDAR with navigation algorithms. The robot supports custom software development, work with artificial intelligence algorithms, and testing in NVIDIA Isaac Sim.
Advantages of Unitree As2-W Edu Plus
- High performance for complex computational tasks. The 100 TOPS docking station provides additional resources for artificial intelligence algorithms, computer vision, sensor data processing, and autonomous navigation.
- Enhanced navigation and mapping capabilities. The Edu Plus package includes the Livox Mid-360 LiDAR, which is used for obtaining spatial data and operating navigation algorithms.
- More accurate distance measurement to objects. The depth camera transmits distance data and helps the system assess space and detect obstacles in front of the robot.
- Ability to create custom software solutions. The platform supports additional development of control, navigation, and data processing algorithms.
- Testing algorithms in a virtual environment. The robot models and simulation interfaces support NVIDIA Isaac Sim for scenario verification before launching on a real robot.
- Accurate perception of the surrounding space. The basic industrial 64–128-line LiDAR works together with other sensors to obtain spatial data.
- High mobility on uneven terrain. 16 degrees of freedom allow controlling the position of the body and limbs during movement and overcoming obstacles.
- Fast movement on open areas. The working speed is 0–3.7 m/s, and the peak can reach about 6 m/s.
- Possibility of installing additional equipment. The allowable load during movement is about 16 kg, allowing the installation of sensors, cameras, and measuring modules.
- Long autonomous operation. The Long-Endurance battery with a capacity of 15000 mAh provides over 3 hours of operation without load and a range of approximately 30 km.
Computational System and Sensors
Unitree As2-W Edu Plus features an 8-core processor and an additional 100 TOPS computational docking station for resource-intensive tasks. The module is designed for processing LiDAR and camera data, SLAM, object recognition, image analysis, and autonomous navigation. The sensor kit includes an industrial 64–128-line LiDAR, an HD camera, a depth camera, and Livox Mid-360. Sensors transmit data for map building, robot positioning, route planning, and obstacle detection.
Development and Simulation
Edu Plus supports the creation of custom software and control algorithms. Developers have access to documentation, robot models, simulation interfaces, and technical support for working with artificial intelligence algorithms. NVIDIA Isaac Sim and compatible simulators allow testing software scenarios before launching on a physical robot.
Drives and Movement
The robot has 16 joint and wheel drives. The drives are equipped with low-inertia high-speed synchronous motors with permanent magnets and an internal rotor. The maximum torque is about 95 Nm. Dual encoders control the position of the drives, local air cooling dissipates heat, and cross-roller bearings are designed for significant mechanical loads.
The working speed is 0–3.7 m/s, and the peak is about 6 m/s. Unitree As2-W Edu Plus can handle slopes up to 45°, steps up to 30 cm, and obstacles approximately 0.4–0.8 m high. The allowable load in motion is about 16 kg, and in a stationary position, about 150 kg.
Power and Connectivity
The Long-Endurance battery has a capacity of 15000 mAh and a voltage of 36–50.4 V. Without load, the robot operates for about 3 hours and covers approximately 30 km. With a load of 16 kg, the operating time exceeds 2 hours, and the distance is about 25 km. For charging, a 50.4 V / 7.4 A device and a charging dock are provided. For data transmission and connecting external equipment, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, Gigabit Ethernet, SBUS, and BAT power output are available.

Practical Recommendations
- Control the weight of the equipment. For extended movement, do not exceed a load of about 16 kg.
- Place modules without shifting the center of gravity. Cameras, LiDAR, and other devices should not interfere with joint movement.
- Clean optical sensors. Before starting, check the HD camera, depth camera, and both LiDARs for dust and contamination.
- Test new algorithms in the simulator. Before launching on the robot, verify navigation and control in NVIDIA Isaac Sim or a compatible simulator.
- Consider battery consumption. The 100 TOPS docking station, additional sensors, and a complex route may reduce the actual operating time from the battery.
