Revopoint POP 4 — Desktop and Handheld 3D Scanner for Color and High-Precision Digitization
Revopoint POP 4 Standard Edition combines blue laser and infrared technology in a single compact body weighing 0.286 kg. Unlike single-source analogs, the device switches between five digital modes to process surfaces of varying complexity, from small mechanical assemblies to large metal or plastic structures. The system is optimized for reverse engineering tasks, preparing 3D meshes for 3D printing, and precise digitization of geometric objects.
Main Technical Advantages of Revopoint POP 4
- Five scanning modes for different types of objects. The scanner works with blue laser, Full-field Structured Light, and VCSEL, allowing the mode to be selected based on the size, shape, and surface of the part.
- Fast geometry capture with 30 laser lines. In Multi-line Laser Mode, the grid of blue cross lines accelerates scanning of dark, metallic, and shiny surfaces.
- Scanning complex geometry. In Deep-Hole Mode, a single blue laser line captures the geometry of grooves, channels, and deep areas that are more difficult to capture with a wide grid.
- Single-frame accuracy up to 0.03 mm. In laser mode, POP 4 transmits fine surface elements with manufacturer-stated accuracy up to 30 microns in laboratory conditions.
- Error control on parts of different sizes. Volumetric accuracy is 0.03 mm + 0.05 mm × L (m), where L is the length of the object.
- Scanning speed up to 105 frames/s. This rate is available with a compatible NVIDIA GPU, and when processing on a CPU, the speed reaches 60 frames/s.
- Scanning medium and large objects from a greater distance. VCSEL Mode operates at a distance of 300–800 mm and supports operation under external lighting up to 100,000 lux.
Five Scanning Modes of Revopoint POP 4
- Multi-line Laser Mode. The mode is based on 30 blue cross laser lines. Designed for mechanical parts, dark surfaces, and reverse engineering with single-frame accuracy up to 0.03 mm. For stable geometry tracking in this mode, marker points are mandatory. The working distance is 200–400 mm, and the digitization speed reaches 105 frames/s with NVIDIA GPU or 60 frames/s with CPU.
- Deep-Hole Mode. The mode focuses on a single blue laser line. Designed for scanning deep holes, narrow grooves, and internal channels where a multi-line laser creates overlap or shadows. The working distance and tracking correspond to the laser system of the device.
- Full-field HD Mode. Uses near-infrared full-field structured light. Provides frame accuracy up to 0.08 mm at a distance of 250–500 mm with a speed of up to 20 frames/s. Suitable for objects with complex textures and clear geometric landmarks, where capture can be performed without using markers.
- Hybrid HD Mode. Combines structured light algorithms for accelerated collection of volumetric data on shape and color. Operates at a distance of 250–500 mm. Reduces processing time for medium objects with mixed relief.
- VCSEL Mode. Based on VCSEL infrared structured light with an extended working distance of 300–800 mm. Accuracy is 0.10 mm at a distance of 300–500 mm and 0.20 mm at a distance of 500–800 mm. The shooting speed reaches 30 frames/s. The mode is designed for large objects and maintains operability under external lighting up to 100,000 lux.
3D Scanning Accuracy and Data Density
The parameter Single-frame Accuracy determines the error of a single frame of the optical system. In Revopoint POP 4, this indicator is up to 0.03 mm in blue laser mode, up to 0.08 mm in Full-field HD, and 0.10 mm in VCSEL at a distance of 300–500 mm. Values are obtained by the manufacturer in laboratory conditions.
Volumetric accuracy Volumetric Accuracy is 0.03 mm + 0.05 mm × L (m), where L is the length of the object. The parameter Fused Point Distance characterizes the density of the combined point cloud and is up to 0.05 mm.
For reverse engineering and CAD modeling, these characteristics are important when reproducing control dimensions, radii, and fitments. Actual accuracy depends on scanning conditions, calibration, tracking stability, and object surface preparation.
Object Size and Working Distance
The maximum range of object sizes for scanning is from 10 × 10 × 10 mm to 2 × 2 × 2 m. The optimal distance from the scanner to the surface depends on the selected light source:
- 200–400 mm — laser modes Multi-line Laser, Deep-Hole for small and medium parts;
- 250–500 mm — infrared modes Full-field HD and Hybrid HD for medium objects;
- 300–800 mm — VCSEL mode for large items.
The area of a single frame ranges from 47 × 62 mm at the minimum distance to 426 × 534 mm at the maximum distance.
Tasks Suitable for Revopoint POP 4
- Mechanical parts and reverse engineering. Laser mode with an accuracy of 0.03 mm captures the geometry of housing parts, brackets, fasteners, and castings. The obtained data is exported to CAD systems for dimensioning and reverse engineering.
- Preparing models for 3D printing. The scanner forms closed polygonal meshes (STL, OBJ, 3MF) without open edges. This allows the generated model to be sent to a slicer for further printing on FDM or SLA 3D printers.
- Digitizing prototypes and sculptures. Structured light modes reproduce complex plastic shapes, reliefs, and artistic elements without the risk of damaging the original product.
Color 3D Scanning
Revopoint POP 4 is equipped with an RGB camera with a resolution of 1.3 MP, which captures the color and texture of the surface and links this data to the geometry of the 3D model. The Revo Scan 6 software allows processing color models for visualization, archiving, and further work in graphic editors. Export formats available are FBX, GLTF, and Splat, including for working with 3D Gaussian Splatting data.

Practical Recommendations for 3D Scanning
- In Multi-line Laser mode, place markers unevenly, leaving approximately 20–50 mm between them, so the scanner can reliably determine the object's position.
- Keep the scanner within the recommended working distance and monitor the distance using the indicator in the software.
- During handheld scanning, move the device evenly without sudden movements to maintain tracking.
- For mirror, transparent, and complex glossy surfaces, apply a matting spray before scanning.
- Export the final data in STL format for 3D printing or in OBJ/FBX for preserving color textures.
