Support material for metal 3D printing
Metal 3D printing with a support layer made from BASF Forward AM Ultrafuse Support Layer helps you save expensive metal plastics. The Ultrafuse® Support Layer filament will ensure the quality of finished parts and facilitate post-processing. The material is distinguished by the fact that it does not form a single unit with the part. A barrier is formed between the support and the part during sintering, making it easy to remove the support after printing.

Ultrafuse® Support Layer: printing a support layer
It is important to remember that Ultrafuse Support Layer is intended exclusively for printing support layers. Metal parts should be printed with a special filament.
Advantages of the filament for printing support for metal parts
- Can be used on a variety of FFF metal printers.
- The material makes it easier to prepare for printing.
- Expands the possibilities of printing design and geometry.
- Provides excellent surface quality of the support areas of the part.
- Minimizes deformation of the part during post-printing work
For plastic printing, the manufacturer recommends using a ruby nozzle or a hardened coated nozzle.
Printing with metal with maximum efficiency
With Ultrafuse® 316L and 17-4 PH filaments, metal part production is simple, fast and cost-effective. And with the Ultrafuse Support Layer filament, the process has been further optimized. It reduces the consumption of the base material and simplifies cleaning and polishing of the part. You can even separate the support from the part without tools.

How does 3D metal printing differ from plastic printing?
Most plastic parts require only cosmetic finishing after printing.
For metal parts, printing is just a stage of production. To acquire all the necessary properties, the part needs further processing: washing and sintering. The product is fully finished and acquires the desired properties only after a full technological cycle.
