Bambu Lab PLA Matte Filament for Decorative Products and Models with a Matte Finish
Bambu Lab PLA Matte is a matte plastic for 3D printing, designed for the production of decorative products, engineering models, cases, and demonstration models. The material's feature is its matte surface, which effectively hides print layers. With a density of 1.31 g/cm³, the filament is optimized for high-speed production up to 300 mm/s, allowing for aesthetic details with a tensile strength of 30 MPa and easy support removal.
Features and Key Advantages
- Combination of matte aesthetics and ultra-fast printing. Unlike standard matte filaments, which lose their properties when accelerated, this plastic retains a completely matte texture even when printing at speeds up to 300 mm/s.
- Monolithic product effect. The surface of the finished part completely absorbs light and does not shine. This allows for visually hiding the micro-layers of plastic application, giving the products the appearance of serial parts made by injection molding.
- Easy support removal. The material is designed with the printing of complex geometric shapes in mind. Temporary support structures easily separate from the body of the model, minimizing the risk of surface damage and reducing post-processing time. Thanks to the improved stability of the plastic, parts with an overhang angle of up to 55° can be printed without supports.
- Spool modifications. The material can be supplied on a branded spool or in a refill format. The Refill option allows for the reuse of existing Bambu Lab disassemblable spools, reducing plastic waste and optimizing costs.
- RFID automation. The branded spool is equipped with an integrated RFID tag for automatic plastic recognition by the printer system, allowing for the identification of the type and color of the plastic. With its help, basic settings in the slicer are set automatically.

Functionality and Mechanical Properties
- Stable material feed and melt flow. The melt flow index is 18.0 g/10 min. This means that the heated plastic has optimal viscosity and easily passes through the nozzle, ensuring even extrusion without layer skips even at high printing speeds.
- Static strength. The material's tensile strength along the X-Y axis is 30 MPa, and the flexural strength is 53 MPa, allowing parts to withstand moderate mechanical loads.
- High rigidity of products. The flexural modulus of elasticity at 2360 MPa ensures shape stability and resistance of finished models to bending.
- Orientation towards static loads. The Izod impact strength with a notch is 6.3 kJ/m². This value indicates the matte material's tendency to brittleness under sudden impacts, so it is recommended for structures without dynamic loads.
- Operating temperature limit. The glass transition temperature of the plastic is 61 °C, and the Vicat softening point is 63 °C. The onset of thermal deformation under load occurs in the range of 52 to 58 °C, limiting the use of finished products to room temperatures.
Application Areas
- Architectural and engineering modeling. Creating large demonstration models, concept maps, and building details where the absence of glare helps to clearly assess the shape and lines of the object.
- Production of designer products. Printing interior decor items, custom vases, elements of modern lamps, and organizers with a matte finish.
- Aesthetic device cases. Manufacturing protective covers, custom panels, and cases for sensors or remote controls used indoors.
- Souvenir products. Creating figurines, branded merchandise, and collectible items that have an attractive appearance due to the matte texture.

Compatibility and Integration into the Workflow
- Platform versatility. The filament is suitable for use on any open-type FDM printers and is compatible with all standard nozzle diameters from 0.2 to 0.8 mm.
- Extrusion modes. Thanks to the standard temperature range of 190–230 °C, the plastic does not require specific equipment or hotend modification.
- Adhesion and fixation. The first layer is securely fixed on both low-temperature and high-temperature smooth or textured PEI surfaces. Before starting work, it is recommended to apply specialized 3D glue, and the bed temperature should be maintained within 35–45 °C with the model fan turned on.
