PLA (PLA, polylactide) - biodegradable plastic made from renewable resources (corn). The physical properties of PLA plastic are similar to ABS - it is also a hard and brittle polymer (the stiffness of PLA is even greater), but with a minimum shrinkage factor and high interlayer adhesion as in ABS +. Models hold perfectly even on a table without heating, excellent adhesion allows to receive models of good quality "from dust, from heat".
Since PLA is made on the basis of biodegradable products, the service life of finished models is quite limited. It is not necessary to use this plastic for the press of models which will be for a long time in the open air, under solar radiation, and, especially to be exposed to acids. Thin-walled models decompose outdoors in a very short time. Also, do not forget that, like any thermoplastic, before using PLA should be well dried. The main advantage of PLA is its safety in use. Polylactide does not emit harmful substances when heated, there is no odor when printed. A great option for printing at home, and in poorly ventilated areas, as well as where there are children. PLA is great for working with 3D pens.
