The Formlabs Fuse X1 Sift 230V is a large-format SLS post-processing station that removes manual intervention from the powder recovery loop — accepting the combined output of three to five successive complete builds before any operator attention is required. Designed exclusively for the Formlabs Fuse ecosystem, it integrates a sealed-chamber glovebox, on-board compressed-air depowdering, and a fully automatic powder delivery pipeline to the Formlabs Mix Kit, all within a single continuous-duty floorstanding unit running on 230 V.

The front view below captures the complete Fuse X1 Sift configuration in a single frame: the illuminated, stainless-steel sealed glovebox occupies the upper section with its three operator arm portals and integrated air gun mounted centrally, while the dual-door grey cabinet body houses the powder management internals. The dedicated powder collection module sits to the right, with its transfer container positioned at the base.

Post-Processing Without the Bottleneck: Three to Five Builds, Unattended

In any SLS production environment running multiple daily cycles, powder post-processing eventually becomes the rate-limiting step — not the printer itself. When a build completes, the traditional workflow demands an operator's immediate presence: scoop the used powder from the cake, move it to an intermediate holding vessel, route it downstream to the refresh unit, and clear the bench before the next job can begin. Each of these steps consumes time, risks powder spill, and ties up production floor space with temporary staging.

The Fuse X1 Sift restructures this entirely. Used powder moves from the work chamber through an automated internal transport pathway directly to the Mix Kit — no intermediate scooping, no operator-managed containers, no interruption to the production queue. With capacity for the output of three to five full builds, the station absorbs a significant portion of any shift before a human ever needs to interact with the powder stream. Powder recovery transitions from a scheduled manual task into continuous background operation.

The left-angle view below shows the ergonomic profile of the Fuse X1 Sift: the retractable parts breakout tray is extended, and the caster wheel base is visible — both features that support flexible repositioning within production spaces of varying layouts.

Sealed Containment at Any Production Scale

Nylon and PA12 powders used in SLS are ultrafine, electrostatically charged particulates. Without proper physical containment, they migrate across every horizontal surface within metres of the recovery station, accelerate ventilation filter wear, and create a persistent inhalation hazard. The Fuse X1 Sift addresses this with a fully sealed glovebox architecture that does not compromise at any build size — the work chamber maintains positive sealing against the surrounding environment at all times, regardless of whether the operator is processing a single small bracket or a densely packed full build platform.

Three Arm Portals, Zero Workspace Contamination

Three integrated arm portals give operators direct hands-on access to parts during breakout and depowdering, without opening the sealed environment to the surrounding atmosphere. The chamber remains closed. Powder stays inside. This is not merely a comfort feature — it is the mechanism that allows the Fuse X1 Sift to run in shared manufacturing spaces, open offices, and university laboratories where uncontrolled powder dispersal would be unacceptable.

On-Board Depowdering and Automatic Part Routing

Integrated Compressed Air: Complex Geometries Clean in Seconds

Residual SLS powder in internal channels, lattice structures, and thin-walled features does not respond reliably to brush-based cleaning — the geometry blocks access and the powder packs too tightly. The Fuse X1 Sift includes an integrated compressed air inlet and pistol-grip gun mounted inside the sealed chamber. Because the glovebox fully contains all displaced particulate, the operator can blast complex geometries aggressively without any powder escaping into the workshop. Per-part depowdering time drops substantially, and cleaning quality is consistent across geometries of any complexity — from solid blocks to open-cell lattice structures.

Built-In Parts Hatch: Bench Clears in One Motion

Once broken out and depowdered, finished parts need to exit the work area immediately so that throughput is maintained. The Fuse X1 Sift's purpose-built parts hatch provides a dedicated exit route: parts pass directly from the glovebox chamber to the transfer bin in a single operator motion, without lifting, repositioning, or managing any secondary staging step. The bench clears automatically. Build after build, the cycle repeats at the same pace.

The right-angle view below highlights the integrated powder collection and transfer module — the enclosed enclosure to the right of the main cabinet — that enables the station's multi-build autonomous capacity. The powder transfer container is visible at its base.

Expert Verdict: The Fuse X1 Sift 230V addresses a specific and predictable scaling constraint: once an SLS environment runs more than one or two builds per day, the post-processing step — not the printer — sets the pace for the entire operation. Sealed-chamber containment prevents powder from migrating across the workspace, on-board compressed air eliminates manual brushing across all part geometries, and the automatic Mix Kit transfer loop closes the recovery chain without an operator in the loop for three to five build cycles. One configuration note worth flagging before purchase: the automated powder transport pipeline is a closed-loop dependency between the Sift X1 and the Mix Kit — both units must be present in the facility for the full automation sequence to function as specified. Confirm your complete Fuse ecosystem configuration before commissioning.
