The Formlabs Fuse Blast Large Tumbler Basket Liner Kit is a genuine replacement consumable designed to restore the interior lining of the Fuse Blast Large Tumbler Basket used in SLS post-processing workflows. The liner cushions parts during media tumbling cycles and protects the basket structure from abrasive wear. Sold separately from the basket, this kit supplies every component required for a complete, hardware-ready liner replacement.

Compatible Device Fuse Blast Large Tumbler Basket
Component Type Replacement liner kit (consumable)
Application SLS post-processing, media tumbling / surface finishing
Hardware Included Plastic rivets, retention collar, push-clip fasteners

Proactive Liner Maintenance Keeps Surface Quality Consistent

The Fuse Blast tumbling process works by rotating SLS-printed parts together with fine abrasive media inside the basket. As cumulative cycles accumulate, the interior liner — which separates parts from the bare metal basket wall and distributes media flow uniformly — wears progressively thinner. Replacing the liner at the right interval prevents two distinct quality risks: direct part-to-metal contact, which leaves uneven surface marks, and irregular media flow caused by liner thinning, which produces non-uniform surface texture across a batch.

The image below shows the full Liner Kit laid out with all components visible before installation — the bottom disc, side wall strip, retention collar, rivets, and push-clip fasteners.

What the Liner Protects

The liner serves two protection roles simultaneously. First, it cushions SLS components against the rigid basket walls, absorbing the low-energy impacts that would otherwise leave hard contact marks on finished surfaces. Second, it takes the abrasion load that would otherwise reach the metal basket structure directly — extending the operational life of the basket hardware itself. The open-cell material also maintains consistent media contact across the full interior surface area, which is what produces even surface texture from part to part within a single batch.

When to Schedule a Replacement

Visual inspection is the most reliable indicator of liner condition. Check the liner surface for thinning patches, visible tears, or compressed zones where the material no longer provides even cushioning depth. Any of these signals that a replacement should happen before the next batch cycle, not after it.

The image below shows the liner fully installed inside the Large Tumbler Basket, viewed from above — the retention collar holds the liner material flush against the basket wall while the disc covers the bottom.

Complete Replacement Kit — Every Component Included

Rather than supplying only the liner material, this kit provides the complete hardware set required for a proper installation in the Large Tumbler Basket. The black perforated retention collar holds the liner firmly against the basket wall during rotation, preventing any shift that would cause uneven media contact. The plastic rivets and push-clip fasteners are the correct OEM fixing hardware — using non-original fasteners risks movement during operation, which disrupts the uniform contact the liner is designed to maintain.

Liner Material Construction

The liner disc and side wall strip are manufactured from an interlocking open-cell material — the dense, looped fibrous mesh pattern is clearly visible in the close-up below. This construction allows abrasive media to pass through the liner surface while still providing the cushioning separation between parts and basket hardware. The material retains its dimensional structure under the repetitive mechanical stress of tumbling, but regular replacement is part of the recommended maintenance schedule for sustained post-processing consistency.

Expert Verdict: Liner condition has a measurable effect on batch surface-finish uniformity. A worn or compressed liner alters the local media-to-part contact ratio inside the basket, which can cause one zone of a batch to receive more media passes than another. Replace the liner as a scheduled maintenance item — particularly when processing parts with strict cosmetic finish requirements — rather than waiting for visible failure. The plastic rivets and retention collar in this kit are the correct fasteners for the Large Tumbler Basket specifically; they are not interchangeable with the Standard Tumbler Basket liner components.

The close-up below reveals the interlocking fibrous texture of the liner material, showing how the open-cell structure enables media flow while maintaining part cushioning during tumbling cycles.
